What is your new job?

 

The Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing an automated system that includes industrial robotics, composite material handling, and supporting software applications. This role acts as the technical backbone for production teams, ensuring minimal downtime and reliable system performance in a high‑precision composite manufacturing environment.

What are your responsibilities?

 

System & Robot Support. Provide first- and second-line support for robotic equipment used in composite production (pick‑and‑place robot, cutting cell automation). Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues with robotic systems. Monitor system health, perform periodic checks, and execute preventive maintenance tasks.

 

Software Support. Troubleshoot application-level issues involving: Machine control software (PLC, robot programs), Custom nesting software, Data interfaces (APIs, SQL databases, OPC-UA communication). Implement minor software updates or parameter adjustments based on engineering guidance.

 

Production Assistance. Assist operators and technicians with day-to-day issues at the cutting room or kitting workstation. Train end-users on system usage, new features, and best practices. Capture and escalate complex issues to the engineering team.

 

Technical Documentation. Maintain detailed logs of incidents, root causes, and resolutions.

Create support documentation, quick-start guides, and maintenance checklists.

 

Continuous Improvement. Identify recurring problems and propose improvements in workflow, configuration, or hardware. Participate in testing of new software releases or robot program updates.

Job Requirements

Education                                                                                                                                                                                                 

·         Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Automation/Aerospace)

                                   

Technical skills

·         Experience supporting industrial robots (e.g., KUKA, ABB).

·         Basic to intermediate programming capabilities:

o  PLC Siemens – ability to read and interpret ladder logic or structured text.

o  Robot programming languages or teach pendant experience.

o  Scripting or basic coding (Python or similar) is a plus.

·         Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (OPC-UA, fieldbus systems).

·         Understanding of composite production processes (prepreg, cutting, kitting) is highly desirable.

 

Software & IT Skills

  • Good knowledge of Windows-based systems, industrial PCs, and networks.

  • Ability to analyze logs, troubleshoot and read system diagnostics.

  • Basic understanding of data logging systems is a plus.

 

Work experience              

·         2–5 years in a support, maintenance, or automation engineering role.

·         Experience in manufacturing, preferably aerospace/composites, is an advantage.

 

Other

  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a practical, hands-on approach.

  • Clear communication with operators and engineers

  • Ability to work under pressure, especially in production environments.

  • Customer‑oriented attitude.

  • Ability to communicate technically in English and Spanish

 

Availability, Location & Mobility 

  • Willing to be on consignation call between 07:30 – 22:30 

  • Lives or willing to relocate within 1 hour travel distance of Getafe, Spain 

  • Willing to travel to other locations in Europe for on‑site support & training at the headquarters in the Netherlands.
